- They first established their colony in Madagascar in 1602.
- 1664 The French East Indian Company established by King Louis XIV on the advice of his minister
- 1668 first factory in India was established in Surat and the permission obtained by Berber from Aurangzeb.
- 1669 First factory in South India established in Masulipattanam permission obtained from Sultan Golkonda.
- 1672 French defeated Dutch and removed them from Santhome (Mylapore) region in Madras.
- 1673 Francois Martin obtained permission from Sherkhan Lodi of Bijapur and laid foundation for modern Pondicherry.
- Francois Martin became the first Governor of Pondicherry and there he built Fort St. Louis.
- 1692 the war occurred between France and Holland in Europe. Due to lack of men and arms French lost Pondicherry to Dutch in 1693.
- 1697 the Pondicherry returned to French due to the Treaty of Ryswick.
- In 1725 Mahe and in 1739 Karaikal came under France.
The political Situation changed when Dupleix appointed as the Governor of French possession in India in 1742. Under his rule the French influences increased in India and let to the conflict with British. Later it developed into war and finally British established their Supremacy over India.
