Dheeran Chinnamalai
- Born: 1756
- Real Name: Theerthagiri
- Birth Place: Chennimalai, Erode.
- He was the Kongu Palayakarar who opposed British in Kongu region which was under the rule of Mysore Kingdom.
- He was trained by French warfare and fought against company along with Tipu Sultan.
- After the death of Tipu Sultan he built a fort against company known as ‘Odanilai’.
- He confiscated the tax of Sultan from Diwan Ali & it led to the “Battle of Noyyal” in which Chinnamalai emerged victorious.
- He used Guerrilla warfare against company
- In the Battle of Coimbatore he was defeated by company.
- He defeated the company at “Kaveri river Battle” in 1801.
- In 1802 he defeated company in the “Battle of Odanilai”.
- In 1804 he also defeated company in the “Battle of Arachanallur”.
- In 1805 he and his brother captured by company with the help of his cook.
- On 31 July 1805 Dheeran Chinnamalai and his brother were hanged to death at Sankagiri Fort.
