Marudhu Brothers
- Father: Mookaiah Palaniyappan.
- Mother: Ponnathaal.
- Elder: Vellai Marudhu (or) Periya Marudhu
- Younger: Chinna Maruthu (or) Marudhu Pandyan (Most famous).
- Chinna Marudhu worked under Muthu Vadugar of Sivagangai and participated in Kalayarkovil Battle in 1772.
- Within few months after the defeat in Kalayarkovil Battle, Marudhu Brothers captured Sivaganga and Periya Marudhu became the king and Chinna Marudhu became the adviser.
- Chinna Marudhu called as “Lion of Sivaganga”.
- They helped Velunachiyar to restored Sivagangai and enthroned her as Queen.
South Indian Rebellion (1800 – 1801)
- After the death of Kattabomman his brother Oomathurai joined with Marudhu Brothers in February 1801.
- The rebellion broke out again in 1800 known as Second Palayakarar war.
- The confederacy consisting Gopala Nayak of Dindigul, Kerala Varma of Malabar, Krishnappa Nayak & Dhoondaji of Mysore headed by Marudhu Pandyan.
- In April 1800 they met at Virupachi and decided to upraise against company.
- Oomathurai and Sevathaiah reconstructed Panchalankurichi fort but it captured again by Colin Macaulay so Omathurai & Sevathaiah took shelter in Sivaganga.
- When Marudhu Brothers refused to hand over the brothers of Kattabomman the company sent a troop against Sivagangai under Colonel Agnew and colonel Innes.
- In June 1801 issued proclamation of Independence known as Trichirapalli proclamation against British. It pasted on the wall of Trichirapalli fort and Srirangam temple.
- Oomathurai captured Pazhayanadu near Madurai in July 1801.
- Sevatha Thambi the son of Chinna Marudhu moved to Tanjavur but with the help of Sarabhoji II the company defeated him at Mangudi.
- After the defeat of Tipusultan many troops of company moved toward Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga.
- Many rulers like Thondaiman of Pudhukottai, Raja of Ettayapuram & Saraboji of Tanjavore helped company.
- Divide and rule policy of company helped them to split the Indian rulers to win.
- In May 1801 the company started the battle under Colonel Agnew and Colonel Innes.
- Soon the company captured Manamadhurai, Parthibanur and Paramakudi.
- 1801 Sivaganga annexed by company and Marudhu brothers were hanged to death on 24 October 1801
- Soon company captured Oomathurai, Sevattaiah and Duraisamy son of Chinna Marudhu.
- 16 November 1801 Oomathurai & Sevathaiah were beheaded at Panchalamkurichi.
- 73 rebellions were deported to Penang in Malaya.
- On 31 July, 1801, New Carnatic treaty signed between Nawab & Company.
- Acording to this treaty company took the direct control over Tamil Nadu and abolished Poligar system.
