Some important schemes for women in Tamilnadu are,
Cradle Baby Scheme
- To eradicate female infanticide and to save girl Children from the clutches of death, Cradle Baby Scheme was introduced in 1992.
- Children rescued under the Cradle Baby Scheme have been rehabilitated with an alternate family under adoption programmes.
Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme
- Aimed at preventing gender discrimination by empowering and protecting rights of girl Children through direct investment from Government.
- The scheme aims to: Promote enrolment and retention of the girl child in school and to ensure her education at least up to intermediate level.
- Encourage girls to get married only after the age of 18 years.
- Encourage parents to adopt family planning norms with two girl children
Sivagami Ammaiyar Memorial Girl Child Protection Scheme/ Tamil Nadu Girl Child Protection Scheme
- The financial assistance the girl children in poor families
- Eligibility Condition:
- Family income should be below Rs.50,000/- per annum for Scheme I and below Rs.12,000 per annum for Scheme – II.
- The application should be made before the beneficiary girl child completes 3 years of age, in the case of Scheme I for single girl child. In the case of two girl children, the application should be made before the second girl child completes 3 years of age.
- Either of the parents should have undergone sterilization within 35 years.
- The family should have only one/two female children and no male child.
- In future, no male child should be adopted.
Amma Two Wheeler Scheme
- The government will provide 50% subsidy or up to 25,000 purchase of mopeds and scooters
- Eligibility Condition: All working women in Tamilnadu between the age of 18-40 years, annual income of women should be less than 2.50 lakhs per annum and only one female in a family can apply this scheme.
Sathiyavanimuthu Ammaiyar Ninaivu Free Supply of Sewing Machine Scheme
- To enhance the income of widows, deserted wives, women from economically weaker sections, differently abled men and women, and socially affected women through self-employment.
Tailoring Training Centers for Tribal Women:
- Women Tailoring Training Centers are functioning at Salem and Tiruvannamalai exclusively for the tribal women.
Service Homes
- Widows, deserted wives, economically backward women and girls rescued from child marriage who are neglected by their families are taken care of in the Service homes.
- The Service Homes provide suitable accommodation, food, health medical facilities.
- The inmates can also pursue their schooling if they had discontinued their studies.
