Discuss about the purpose of TAMIL NADU STATE DATA CENTRE (TNSDC)

The Tamil Nadu State Data Centre (TNSDC) is a critical piece of infrastructure for the state government of Tamil Nadu, functioning as the backbone for its e-governance initiatives and data management strategies. The TNSDC serves several critical purposes for the state government and its various departments:

Purpose of TNSDC:

  • TNSDC acts as a key-supporting element of e-Governance initiatives and businesses for delivering services to the citizens with greater reliability, availability, dependability and serviceability.
  • TNSDC provides better operations and management control and aims to minimize overall cost of Data Management, IT Management, Deployment, Power requirement and other costs.
  • TNSDC enables the State Government Departments to host their applications, services and servers on a common, redundant, secured and controlled infrastructure aiming at ease of integration and efficient management.
  • Tamil Nadu State Data Centre (TNSDC) facilitates consolidated hosting of departmental applications to provide efficient delivery of eGovernance services of the State.
  • These services are extended to Government agencies, Citizens and Business through intranet connectivity by Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network (TNSWAN) also through internet.

1. Facilitating E-Governance:

  • TNSDC acts as the backbone for the state’s e-Governance initiatives, enabling government departments to host their applications, services, and servers on a common, secure, and controlled infrastructure.
  • This promotes efficient delivery of G2G, G2C, and G2B services electronically, making government services more accessible and convenient for citizens.

2. Centralized Data Management:

  • TNSDC consolidates and centralizes data storage and management for various government departments, improving data security, reliability, and accessibility.
  • This reduces redundancy, optimizes storage utilization, and minimizes infrastructure costs for individual departments.

3. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

  • TNSDC is designed with disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring continued service availability even in case of unforeseen events like natural disasters or technical failures.
  • It provides a mirror image of hosted applications and data in a geographically separate location, ensuring business continuity for critical government services.

4. Improved Operational Efficiency:

  • TNSDC enables central control and management of IT infrastructure for government departments, leading to improved operational efficiency, cost savings through resource optimization, and simplified software deployment and maintenance.

5. Cloud Infrastructure and Scalability:

  • TNSDC offers cloud-based infrastructure, providing departments with on-demand scalability and flexibility to cater to varying workload demands.
  • This allows them to quickly provision and deploy new applications and services without investing in additional hardware.

6. Co-Location and Collaboration:

  • TNSDC provides optional co-location facilities for departments willing to manage their own servers and services within the secure data center environment.
  • This facilitates collaboration and resource sharing between departments.
